The Mounds View Police Department launched several new programs in the first and second <br />quarter to include: The Mounds View Police Reserve Unit, volunteer Crime Prevention <br />Specialist, a full time traffic car, and the Neighborhood Resource Officer position. The reserve <br />Unit is commanded by Sgt. Ben Knitter and will be utilized in numerous upcoming events for <br />traffic control, outreach, prisoner transport, and other duties as assigned. The traffic officer <br />focuses on all our identified problem areas and addresses the issue with proactive activity. This <br />position will last the duration of summer and then return to patrol when the SRO's go back into <br />the school for the school year. The traffic car averages around 16 traffic stops per day. The <br />Neighborhood Resource Officer will be a year round positon that focuses on crime prevention, <br />outreach, crime free multi -housing, neighborhood watch, social media, and addressing <br />neighborhood issues and quality of life issues with key partnership from code enforcement and <br />landlords. The volunteer Crime Prevention Specialist assists the NRO at outreach functions and <br />assists in teaching classes and giving presentations. <br />
