M0U--N-DitSVV!rW <br />City of Mounds View Staff R <br />Item No: 08A <br />Meeting Date: August 26, 2019 <br />Type of Business: Business <br />City Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: First Reading Ordinance 961 Amending Title 500 Chapter 512 <br />of City Code, restricting Tobacco Sales to Age 21 or older <br />Introduction: At their June 3, 2019 Workshop, Council received presentation and input <br />from representatives advocating for increased regulation of tobacco products. <br />Discussion: Upon conclusion of the presentation, Council reviewed the various options; <br />Age 21, vaping products, menthol products, combination of two or more. Council <br />consensus was to move forward with Age 21 restriction only. State law requires a 30 day <br />notice to the code prior to holding a public hearing. Upon receipt of the updated code <br />from City Attorney, staff published on the web page and sent notice to the attached <br />tobacco retailers the week of July 15 notifying them of the proposed change and that a <br />public hearing would be occurring at the August 26, 2019 meeting (thereby complying <br />with statutory requirement.
