M0U--N-DitSVV!rW <br />City of Mounds View Staff R <br />Item No: 08F <br />Meeting Date: September 9, 2019 <br />Type of Business: Business <br />City Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Second Reading Ordinance 961 Amending Title 500 Chapter <br />512 of City Code, restricting Tobacco Sales to Age 21 or older <br />Introduction: At their June 3, 2019 Workshop, Council received presentation and input <br />from representatives advocating for increased regulation of tobacco products. First <br />Reading occurred at the August 26, 2019 workshop at which 6 individuals testified, all in <br />support. <br />Discussion: A motion was adopted at the August 26th Council meeting to ensure <br />"vaping" products were included and legal counsel has reviewed and amended to comply <br />with council direction. No other communication has been received from residents, <br />business owners, or concerned parties. <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: <br />A progressive City that is welcoming, and a desirable destination to all ages & cultures, <br />who seek progress through partnerships, and a place where residents can work, live, <br />and play safely and show pride in the community <br />Financial Impact: There is no direct financial impact to the City. <br />Recommendation: Conduct second reading of ordinance 961 and if inclined, approve <br />and order summary publication. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Brian Beeman <br />Assistant City Administrator <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
