RESOLUTION 7306 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PURCHASE AND EMERGENCY VEHICLE SET UP <br />OF TWO REPLACEMENT SQUAD CARS <br />WHEREAS, two Mounds View squad cars were totaled in an accident which <br />occurred on July 14, 2008 when a collision occurred involving two Mounds View Police <br />squads responding to an in progress burglary call, and; <br />WHEREAS, in order to maintain the fleet of squad cars required for police patrol <br />coverage in the city it is necessary to replace these two cars as soon as possible, and; <br />WHEREAS, a search of available squad cars for purchase was conducted and a <br />dealer in Wisconsin, Kayser Automotive Group, was the closest dealer located to have <br />in stock white 2008 Crown Victoria squad cars. The price for these two squad cars <br />including delivery is $44,310. The emergency vehicle set up company with the lowest <br />bid for 2008 for setting up Mounds View police cars is PCS safety systems in Elk River. <br />This company reviewed the condition of the two totaled squad cars and gave an <br />estimate for setting up the two new squad cars using equipment which can be salvaged <br />from the totaled cars in the amount of $6,500. The total cost estimate for purchasing <br />two replacement squad cars and setting them up with emergency vehicle equipment is <br />estimated to be $50,810 and; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council for the City of <br />Mounds View authorizes amending the Police Department budget to accommodate the <br />purchase and set up of the replacement squad cars, and authorizes the purchase of two <br />replacement 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police vehicles from Kayser Automotive Group in <br />Madison, Wisconsin for approximately $22,155 each, for a tots! cost of $$44,310, plus <br />tax, registration, and any license fees, and the emergency vehicle set up of these cars <br />from PCS safety systems in Elk River for the approximate amount of $6,500. The City <br />Council further authorizes this expenditure to be funded by a combination of the <br />insurance settlement received from The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, <br />$25,000 from the Police Department forfeiture fund, and the balance from the city <br />contingency fund. <br />ATTEST: <br />Adopted this 28th day of July 2008. <br />Ro arty, Mayor <br />Ju~~~L~u,~6~~ <br />Jim Ericson, City Administrator <br />(seal) <br />
