<br />Item #: 6A <br />Meeting Date: February 15, 2019 <br />Type of Business: EDC <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Economic Development Commission <br />From: Brian Beeman, Assistant City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Review EDC’s 2019 Economic Development Commission Priorities <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Annually, the EDC reviews the priorities for the upcoming year. At the EDC’s meeting February 16, 2018 the <br />Commission reviewed the priorities from the previous year. For the most part, the adopted priorities for 2018 <br />remained unchanged. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />As amended and revised at the February 2018 meeting, the following represents the EDC’s priorities for 2018: <br /> <br />1. Development/redevelopment along the Mounds View Boulevard corridor <br />a) Crossroad Pointe redevelopment site <br />b) Improve the aesthetics of properties located on Mounds View Boulevard <br />c) Silver View Plaza <br />d) Simon’s, Tires N More, & EDA-Owned Vacant Lot <br />e) Johnson Lot & Related Empty Lot <br />f) Rydell Auto & Adjacent Lot <br />g) Mounds View Boulevard & Woodale Drive lots <br />2. Monitor development plans for the Rice Creek Commons site in Arden Hills <br />3. Arden Park & EDA owned Lot <br />4. Monitor Mounds View commercial properties in transition <br />5. Skyline Motel Redevelopment <br />6. Monitor and assist with Citywide housing issues and projects & older properties as well as cooperating <br />with multi-family property owners to assist with upgrading facilities <br />7. Monitor & explore new business categories through trade groups like Medical Alley and identify available <br />spaces in Mounds View with the intent to fill those spaces with new companies <br />8. Continue business retention program <br />9. Review Business section of Comprehensive Plan for 2018 update by utilizing the two Comprehensive <br />Plan Task Force Members who are also EDC Commissioners <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the EDC review its adopted 2018 priorities as a means to consider possible changes for <br />2019.
