City Forestry Information — Guide to Forestry Requirements in the City SHADE TREE DISEASE AND PEST CONTROL - Chapter 605 (hot link to chapter) • Shade Tree Disease and Pest Control Program: Defines that City appointed tree inspectors are empowered to conduct a program of shade tree disease and pest control and other potentially non-native invasive pests and epidemic diseases of trees. • Inspection and Investigation: Defines the role of the tree inspector within the City to investigate infestations or other factors which are potentially contributory to the spread of tree disease and pests. • Nuisances Declared; Abatement: Defines conditions under which dead or living trees or parts thereof are declared as a public nuisance, and the respective expectations of any person in the City. • Abatement Procedures; Assessment of Costs: Defines actions to be taken if subject public nuisances exist on any public or private property in the City, and the abatement expectations of the property owner, and potential impact due to failure to address nuisance. • Disruption of Root Grafts: Describes when the tree inspector may require disruption of root grafts to impede the spreading of tree diseases. • Treating of Trees: Describes when the tree inspector may require appropriate chemical treatment of high value trees in close proximity of trees or wood infected with pests or disease -causing organisms. • Permit Requirements for Transporting Wood: Describes permitting requirements for transporting bark -bearing diseased or pest infested wood. • Storage of Elm Wood: Describes permitting requirement and timeframe for the storage or keeping of any elm wood with intact bark. • Licensing Requirements for Tree Contractors: Describes requirements for tree services by private tree contractors on public or private property.
