Item No: 08A <br />Meeting Date: February 24, 2020 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Rayla Sue Ewald, Human Resources Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9241, Approving the Hire of Nathaniel Ostlund <br />to the Facility Maintenance/Building Custodian Position <br />Background: <br />On November 14, 2019, the Public Works Facility Maintenance/Building Custodian <br />position was posted externally, according to the Public Works Labor Agreement. Staff <br />received six (6) applications and interviewed three (3) candidates. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />The interview panel consisted of Public Works Director Don Peterson, Public Works <br />Superintendent Pete Szurek, and Lead Worker Streets Division Bruce Meehan. It was the <br />consensus of the interview panel to recommend Nathaniel Ostlund to the position of <br />Facility Maintenance/Building Custodian. <br /> <br />Mr. Ostlund has three (3) summers of seasonal experience with Public Works service. If <br />hired, Mr. Ostlund would be a member of the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit, <br />subject to the established job classification system with regard to the pay scale. Based <br />on the criteria set forth by the 2020 – 2022 Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit Labor <br />Agreement, Mr. Ostlund would qualify for Step 1 of the pay scale, which is $18.50 per <br />hour. Also in accordance with the Public Works Agreement, Mr. Ostlund would be subject <br />to a 12 month probationary period. <br /> <br />2020 Hourly Wage Schedule: <br />Step 1 Step 1.5 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 <br />$18.50 $19.08 $19.66 $20.82 21.97 $23.13 <br /> <br />Mr. Ostlund would begin employment on or around Monday, March 2, 2020. Reference, <br />criminal background and driver’s license checks along with the pre-employment physical, <br />drug test, and hiring assessment have been successfully completed. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt Resolution 9241, approving the hire of <br />Nathaniel Ostlund to the Facility Maintenance/Building Custodian Position. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> ______________________ <br />Rayla Sue Ewald <br />Human Resources Coordinator <br />
