1/1 <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br />TO: PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION <br />FROM: NICK DEBAR | PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />DATE: DECEMBER 17, 2009 <br />RE: CITY FORESTER UPDATE <br />The City of New Brighton passed a 2010 budget that includes funding for the City Forester <br />position which operates jointly with Mounds View. It is still uncertain if this position will be hired <br />since a Mayor and Council members were newly elected and will begin in early January. The <br />two cities will be working on an updated Joint Powers Agreement, which has been in place <br />since 1981. Mounds View will be involved in the hiring/interview process. <br />New Brighton has outlined the recruitment process as follows: <br /> <br />New Brighton Parks and Recreation Recruitment Timeline <br />Forester <br />January 2010 to April 2010 <br /> <br />• Publications to be advertised in: <br />o LMCIT – League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (January 4th thru January <br />25th) <br />o Forestry Associations – MSA (MN Society of Arboriculture) & UOM College of <br />Natural Resources (January 4th thru January 25th) <br />o Star and Tribune (Sun. January 15th) <br />o Bulletin (week of January 11th thru January 15th) <br />• Application deadline cut off is Monday, January 25, 2010 <br />• Rate the applications January 26th thru January 29th <br />• Call potential candidates for interviews February 1st thru February 5th <br />• First Round-Interview potential candidates-February 8th thru February 19th <br />• Second Round-Interview potential candidates-February 22nd thru March 5th <br />• Contingent offer made the week of March 8th <br />• Approximate start date Thursday, April 1st <br /> <br />Special notes: <br />MLK Day – Monday, Jan. 18 <br />Pres.
