PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION <br />6:30 P.M. | NOVEMBER 17, 2011 | MOUNDS VIEW CITY HALL <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER at 6:37 PM <br />2. ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Kunz, Palm, Kroeger, Arel, Long <br /> Staff: DeBar | YMCA: Danielson <br />3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion by Palm to approve, 2nd by Kunz. Motion Passed 5-0 <br />4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />A. October 27, 2011 Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve by Kunz, 2nd by Arel. Motion <br />Passed 5-0. <br />5. PUBLIC INPUT <br />Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full <br />name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present <br />6. YMCA REPORT: Danielson: New booking system for MVCC Event Center. Big Band Bash for <br />Active Older Adults was well attended. Winter Sports Sessions has 25 people signed up. New <br />Meditation class for free. Club-Mid and Teen nights partnering with Edgewood Middle School <br />and having every other event at MVCC. Looking in starting a new program every quarter. <br />Cookies with Santa on Dec. 10th from 11-1 with snowman contest as well. <br />7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />8. Discuss Trailway and Sidewalk System: We need to focus on where we need more paths and <br />what type of path each should be in conjunction with the Street and Utilities Committee and <br />upcoming street project plans. Then to move forward with a comprehensive goal and future <br />plans. Consider extending sidewalk at Long Lake Road and North County Line to Spring Lake <br />Park Road. <br />9. NEW BUSINESS <br />A. Discuss Ice Hockey and Skating Rink Improvements at Hillview Park: Staff will explore cost <br />of boards and base material (aglime) as well as speak to resident at the north. Extend south <br />side as close to light poles as possible. Consider planting some additional trees and add <br />lighting on north side. Consider adding netting above the boards. Leave existing rink for <br />younger children, broomball, and other activities. <br />B. Recommend Applicants/Officers for PRF Commission Appointments (Jan. 2012-Dec. <br />2014). Three positions are ending this year, and two Commissioners have resubmitted <br />applications. Dave Long has chosen to retire from the Park, Recreation, and Forestry <br />Commission. Motion by Kroeger, 2nd by Kunz to accept the applications of the two <br />commission applicants (Gerald Arel and Dale Aukee) and recommend applicants to <br />the City Council for approval. Motion Passed 5-0 <br /> Motion by Kroeger, 2nd by Kunz for Cindy Palm to continue as secretary. <br /> Motion Passed 5-0. <br /> <br /> Motion by Kunz to appoint Aukee as Chairperson, and Peterson as Vice-Chairperson. In <br /> their absence the Commission feels we should wait until December after the City Council <br /> has approved the applications before nominating these positions. Motion fails for lack of <br /> second.
