<br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION <br />6:30 P.M. | APRIL 25, 2013 | MOUNDS VIEW CITY HALL <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER at 6:37 PM. <br />2. ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Arel, Aukee, Katovich, Kunz, Kroeger, Palm, Peterson (at 7:25), <br />Long, Daher <br />Staff: Dazenski, DeBar | YMCA: Danielson <br />3. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS <br />A. Oath of Office for Commission Member (Richard Daher). Not present: He is absent or not <br />here yet. <br />4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Palm suggested we remove 11A.1 as it is 9A. Motion to <br />approve by Palm, 2nd by Long. Motion Passed 6-0 <br />5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />A. March 21, 2013 Meeting Minutes. Motion to approve by Kunz, 2nd by Kroeger. Motion <br />Passed 6-0. <br />6. PUBLIC INPUT <br />Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full <br />name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present <br />7. STAFF REPORTS <br />A. YMCA: Danielson: Swimming lessons at capacity. Synchronized swimming basketball, <br />painting, pottery, dance all running great. Playdays 9-12 kids per day. Summer registrations <br />25-30 participants per week. Teen Program ahead of last year, with 4 kids per day. <br />Leagues are down from last year: Deadline is tomorrow. Spring Fling was a hit especially <br />with networking for community agencies! Gym rentals less in April than March by 282. 5K <br />run looking to increase participation and have the race sanctioned. New draping at Event <br />Center. Will be hosting AP testing for area high schools this spring. <br />B. Public Works: Spring clean-up, playground equipment checks, working on irrigation <br />systems, gearing up for spring field maintenance, hope to have fields ready for ball first <br />week of May, new chairs at Random Building, nets are up at courts, rubber walkways to <br />rinks removed, batting cage is in use. <br />Concerns about tree damage and litter at disc golf course. Sasquatch roaming at Silverview <br />Park. What options do we have? Adjust layout? Remove course? Put this on the park <br />tour for May. Direct Staff to talk with other cities (and maybe disc golf organization) <br />to see what precautions they take to limit tree damage and litter. <br />Trailway map was passed to Community Development Coordinator. May pass to Planning <br />Commission. Hope to use as part of Street Committee discussion as well. <br />Library asked about putting a book house in Silverview Park. They will maintain the book <br />house. Encouraged having a representative come in to a future meeting. <br />Are we prepared to treat fields for grub infestation so it doesn’t happen again this year? <br />Yes, Public Works is monitoring. <br />Lambert Field: Have not seen and water ponding. Could be used later this summer. And will <br />be irrigated. Did lay dormant seed in the fall.
