PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION <br />6:30 P.M. | MARCH 26, 2015 | MOUNDS VIEW CITY HALL <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AT 6:31 PM <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL: <br />Commissioners: Arel, Aukee, Katovich, Kroeger, Kunz, Long, Palm, Rundle, Roste <br /> Staff: Peterson | YMCA: Danielson <br />3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to approve by Arel, 2nd by Rundle. Motion Passed 8-0 <br />4. SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />A. Reappointment Oath for David Long by Don Peterson <br />B. Presentation - City Volunteer program PSA by Assistant City Administrator Desaree <br />Crane: City has received a grant for volunteering throughout the city and wants to develop a <br />PSA to promote volunteering in the community. Staff will contact Commissioners as filming <br />time gets scheduled to include whoever is available for various time slots. Also include area <br />businesses that have made volunteer services toward the city. <br />5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />A. February 26, 2015: Motion to approve by Rundle, 2nd by Kroeger. Motion Passed 8-0. <br />6. PUBLIC INPUT <br />Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full <br />name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present <br />7. STAFF REPORTS <br />A. YMCA: See attached report. Summer park program enrollment has strong increase from <br />last year. Dance program has been growing for ages 3-12. Teen Leaders Club hosted a <br />dance for Edgewood Middle School with about 150 in attendance. AOA new offerings <br />include Tai Chi, personal 1-1 training. Events are increasing including non-residents, park <br />rentals are on track with previous years, field rentals have increased. Greenfield may have <br />multiple rentals per day. There is enough interest to possibly add another full-sized baseball <br />field within the city. Is Silverview softball field an option? If multiple time slots are booked for <br />the same day, and they want the field prepped between time slots, there would be a charge <br />for the city to come out. April 25: Community Fair with free waffle breakfast (with donations <br />accepted), and Lions Club as well as area community businesses available. 8:30-11 am <br />10-noon for Community Fair at MVCC. Ice Rink usage: 910 at Lambert, 902 at Hillview. <br />Total count reflected a head count each hour so this number includes multiple people over <br />the course of several hours. <br />B. Public Works: See attached report: Trees around Water Department buildings were <br />removed, trees in the area of Greenfield Park will be removed with Met Council project this <br />spring. Some tree and brush removal around Silver View Trail to continue. City Council <br />approved improvement of Silver View trail costing about $371,020 to come from Special <br />Project Fund. <br />
