Item No. 6 B <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br /> <br />To: Parks & Recreation & Forestry Commissioners <br />From: Brian Erickson - Public Works Director/City Engineer <br /> Don Peterson - Public Works Supervisor <br />Date: March 23, 2017 <br />RE: Public Works Staff Report <br />_______________________________________________________________________________ <br />The following is a synopsis of recent activities and events of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br />Maintenance <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Focus has been on moving the Public Works Shops and cleaning of old parts and supplies. <br />• Spring litter pickup at all parks. <br />• Assist with the annual Community Center cleaning. <br />• Wind storm damage clean up in various parks. <br />• Attend Minnesota Rural Water Association training. <br />• Attend Minnesota Pollution Control Operators Conference. <br />• Starting relocation from PW facility to temporary locations. <br /> <br />Forestry <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Continue working on Emerald Ash Bore Response Plan – required by the DNR. <br />• Attend the Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course Training Seminar. <br /> <br />The following projects are planned this year. Current updates are in grey text, and updates from <br />the previous two month period are in black. <br />Silver View Park <br />Relocate Disc Golf Course: <br />• Scope: A new 9-hole course is proposed to be constructed in the NW corner of the park. <br />The work includes clearing trees, planting new tees, installing targets, removing existing <br />course items and landscape restoration. <br />• Budget: $25,000 (Park Dedication Fund) – includes $2,000 BBC contribution for improving <br />disc golf tees (Mar. 2011). <br />• Public Works Staff meet with Kelly to layout course will be reviewed later in the meeting, <br />staff also meet with Life Scout Ryan working towards Eagle for Tee boxes and baskets for <br />disc golf course. <br />• Tree removal and brush removal has been completed. Course T boxes and disc goals <br />have been GPS located and a map completed. <br />• No new progress at this time, currently waiting for spring when Eagle candidate Ryan can <br />start his work. <br /> <br />Reconstruct Trailways: <br />• Scope: Reconstruction of the asphalt trails with an engineered pavement section and <br />grading/drainage corrections. Will require professional engineering services and obtaining <br />permanent trailway easements from Scottland Green apartments and Silver Lake Woods <br />Townhome Association <br />• Budget: $150,000 (Spec. Projects Fund). Increased to $452,116.09 based on engineering <br />and construction costs. <br />• Silver View trial pavement was completed Sept. 16, 2016. Northwest Asphalt is working on <br />punch list items and waiting for some concrete sidewalk work to be completed. <br />• Restoration will be competed in spring of 2017 <br />• No new progress on hold until spring <br /> <br /> <br />
