<br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION <br />6:30 P.M. | NOVEMBER 15, 2018 | MOUNDS VIEW CITY HALL <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER at 6:31 PM <br />2. ROLL CALL: <br />Commissioners: Arel, *Aukee, Katovich, Kroeger, Kunz, Palm, *Rundle, <br /> Staff: Peterson | YMCA: Thomas *to be absent <br />3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to approve by Palm, 2nd by Kroeger. Motion Passed 5-0 <br />4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: No minutes available from October 25, 2018. Move to future meeting. <br />5. PUBLIC INPUT <br />Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full name and <br />address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present. <br />6. STAFF REPORTS <br />A. YMCA: See attached report. 2019-Expanding fitness and senior programs. Teen Youth in Government <br />conference January 10-13. MVCC has the largest delegation in history for YIG. “Get Summer” <br />programs offers 200 free summer memberships to metro youth in the summer. MVCC has some of <br />these to offer. Summer sports expansion will add other communities to our summer sports programs. <br />Daily admission continues to grow as well as events. Cookies with Santa Dec. 1. 10-12, including a <br />Toys for Tots collection. Ice rinks are coming! Looking for staff to work the warming houses- <br />$10.50/hour. 4-8 weekdays. 12-8 weekends and school-release days. Rental for a skating party <br />available before the scheduled hours. <br />B. Public Works / Forestry: See attached report. New furnace at Random Park Building. Furnace repairs <br />at Hillview. New contractor for tree removal will sign tomorrow. Tree injection will still be Rainbow Tree. <br />7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />A. Forestry Discussion – Certified arborists now on staff! He will work with other staff on our ISA tree goals <br />this winter. Modeling good tree management by the City will hopefully influence good tree management <br />by residents. <br />B. Trails and Sidewalks Master Plan – Review: Some projects were completed with street projects, but <br />others could still be possible with future projects. <br /> <br />8. NEW BUSINES <br />A. Review Applications for Commission Seats 3 Seats up, 3 applications received. Farewell to Steve <br />Katovich. Motion by Palm to recommend to the City Council to approve the three applicants to <br />the Commission, 2nd by Kunz. Motion Passed 5-0. <br />B. Review Draft Meeting Calendar for 2019: Motion by Palm to approve 2019 calendar as proposed. <br />2nd by Kunz. Motion Passed 5-0. <br />C. Expansion of Parking Lot at Silver View Park: No room to expand parking lot. <br />D. Festival in the Park 2019 – To be held at Silver View Park. Parking will be difficult. <br />E. Discuss Cancelation of December 20, 2018 Park and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting. <br />Motion by Palm to cancel December 20, 2019 meeting due to lack of agenda items. 2nd by Arel. <br />Motion Passed 5-0. <br /> <br />9. COMMISSIONER REPORTS-What happened to including a youth on the Commission? Staff will look <br />into this. Thank you, Steve, for your service to the Commission and your forestry expertise. <br /> <br />10. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS-Veterans’ Memorial, Music and <br />Movies in the Park <br /> <br />11. ADJOURNMENT: Motion to adjourn at 7:58 PM by Katovich, 2nd by Kunz.
