Mounds View City Council March 9, 2020 <br />Regular Meeting Page 2 <br />1 <br />2 Mayor Mueller requested another change to Page 8, Line 22 noting this should read: March 4th at <br />3 the Community Center. She invited all to attend. She also requested a quorum be posted. <br />4 <br />5 MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Bergeron. To Approve the City Council Minutes from February <br />6 24, 2020 as amended. <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 6. <br />11 <br />12 None. <br />13 <br />14 7. <br />15 <br />16 <br />Ayes — 5 <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Nays — 0 Motion carried. <br />SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS <br />A. Special Presentation to Mayor Mueller and Police Chief Harder. <br />17 Council Member Gunn presented Mayor Mueller and Police Chief Harder with a stole on behalf <br />18 of the Ghana community. <br />19 <br />20 B. SBM Fire Chief Charlie Smith. <br />21 <br />22 Fire Chief Charlie Smith provided the Council with an update on the Fire District. He explained <br />23 the SBM Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request to the fire that occurred in Becker, <br />24 Minnesota. He reported 12 personnel were sent for two operational periods for a total of 12 <br />25 hours. He commented Engine 2 pumped well over 500,000 gallons of water onto that fire. He <br />26 thanked his crews for the pivotal roll they played at this incident. He stated over 50 fire <br />27 departments responded to this event. He commented this was the largest incident he had <br />28 responded to in the last 30 years. He discussed how his staff worked through the cold on the six <br />29 hour shifts. <br />30 <br />31 Fire Chief Smith discussed the virus that was going around and explained his firefighters were <br />32 working to take care of themselves and stay healthy. He commented on the future plans for Fire <br />33 Station 6 which would be located in the northeast quadrant of Blaine. He reported 20,000 people <br />34 were anticipated to move into this area over the next 20 years. He stated property was being <br />35 considered for this future fire station. It was his hope the Blaine EDA could purchase the land <br />36 for future development. He discussed the current response times (approximately 8 minutes) for <br />37 the SBM Fire Department for this portion of Blaine. <br />38 <br />39 Mayor Mueller questioned if there were any mutual aid cities that would have a faster response <br />40 time for the northeast quadrant of Blaine. Fire Chief Smith stated there was not any community <br />41 that could get to this area any faster than the SBM Fire Department. <br />42 <br />43 Fire Chief Smith commented on the Community EMT Program and described how this initiative <br />44 would benefit the Blaine, Spring Lake Park and Mounds View residents. He discussed the <br />45 staffing at the SBM Fire Department and thanked the City Council for their continued support. <br />
