MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR 0
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: JANUARY 18, 1989
SUBJECT: SOFTBALL LEAGUE CHANGES
I propose changing the adult softball league as follows:
1. Switch Men's class B from Monday evenings to Wednesday evenings. Several
neighboring cities also offer men's upper classifications on Monday
evenings. This prohibits upper classification teams to play in more than
one league per week. A change in day will give them the opportunity to
play upper class here and in neighboring communities.
2. Offer an Industrial Men's class C league. It has been communicated to me
by employees of businesses at the Mounds View Business Park that they 1
want to play in an Industrial League. They believe enough teams could be
generated from the new businesses.
The Senior Boys softball is being offered jointly amongst neighboring
communities for a larger league ... North Metro Senior Boys Slowpitch
Softball League. Games would be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at
various community parks.
4. Offer an eight team Men's class C league on Mondays.
I think that these changes will provide greater opportunity for play by a
greater number of people.
The only conflict that may result is in the Men's class B league. Although it
opens an avenue for playing in more than one league, some team players may
have other commitments on Wednesdays prohibiting their participation.
Please comment on this proposed change.
MS/SL
