MEMO TO: MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS <br />FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR 0 <br />PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY <br />DATE: FEBRUARY 16, 1989 <br />SUBJECT: QUARTERLY REPORT: AN OVERVIEW OF PART-TIME OR SEASONAL <br />EMPLOYEES IN PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY <br />The many activities offered through the Mounds View Parks, <br />Recreation and Forestry Department are possible only because of the <br />interest and commitment of over 218 part-time employees. These <br />employees are from all walks of life from college professors, <br />teachers, college students to persons with special talents and <br />skills, high school students, accountants and social workers. One <br />common characteristic of all these people is that they enjoy <br />working with other people. They enjoy sharing their skills, <br />knowledge and interests. <br />These employees devote hours and hours of unpaid planning, <br />preparation and training time. Many positions require yearly <br />certification fees and training time commitment. <br />What does the City have to offer these people? <br />1. An opportunity to share their interests and skills. <br />2. A leisure recreational outlet. <br />3. An opportunity to influence and benefit people's leisure <br />lives. <br />4. Extra spending money. <br />5. An opportunity to expand ones skill or interest. <br />6. An opportunity to play a part of a son or daughter's athletic <br />participation. <br />7. An opportunity to experiment being in the leadership/teaching <br />role to better understand ones future career choices. <br />8. Satisfaction knowing that you helped people enjoy an activity <br />because of the leadership or teaching commitment that was <br />provided. <br />Here is an overview of the 1988 part-time/seasonal employees: <br />- 23 employees were high school students <br />- 68 employees were college students <br />
