MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: FEBRUARY 13, 1990
SUBJECT: NYSCA
Please find attached the resolution adopted by the City Council on
February 12, 1990. I wish to play an introductory tape explaining
NYSCA. It is important that we all understand the philosophy and goals
of the program.
I have talked to Mr. Frank Mazzacco regarding certifying all MVAA
coaches through a coaches clinic held by the Parks and Recreation
Department. I indicated that the City would pay one-half of the
certification fee or $7.50 per coach if the Association or coaches could
pick up the other half. This membership provides $500,000 liability
coverage. This is important because a majority of the games are played
on City park fields and MVAA does not hold any liability coverage.
Therefore, all liability risk falls upon the City.
Mr. Mazzacco was very receptive to the idea and agreed to bring up the
issue at a future meeting. Attached is the letter written to Mr. Mazzacco
regarding the issue.
MS/SL
Attachment
