THE ROCKFORD PARK DISTRICT
Your Park District was created by a vote of
the people in 1909 when Rockford had a
population of 45,000. Five commissioners,
who are elected at large and serve without
pay, are "to acquire, maintain, and operate
park facilities and recreational programs for
the citizens of the District."
Today the District serves approximately
220,000 people with all types of facilities and
programs on its 125 park areas comprised of
2,800 acres of land. Serving citizens in an ef-
fective, economical and equitable manner is
a constant goal of the Park Board. It is also
policy to appoint citizen advisory commit-
tees for greater citizen Input to assist in the
decision-making process.
The Rockford Park District is a special unit
of local government and as such receives real
estate taxes and fees and charges for its
operation.
This booklet has been prepared to cite ex-
amples of gifts that have improved the
QUALITY OF LIFE in the Park District area. It
Is also an opportunity to recognize the ge,
erosity we depend upon and to hopefully ex-
cite gifts from other citizens.
Since giving is very personal and depen-
dent upon assets and timing, It is important
for the giver to seek financial and/or legal
counsel. The Park District will also give
assistance where needed.
For further information, contact any Park
Board member, the Executive Director of the
Park District or David Wiemer, Development
Officer, 1401 north Second Street, Rockford,
Illinois, 61107, 987-8800 or 987-8865.
THE PLEASURE OF GIVING
There is great personal satisfaction in
giving to an organization that you ad-
mire and enjoy. Many people have found
that satisfaction through the Rockford
Park District. It has been reflected in
many ways through the years.
• As a memorial to family members or
other friends.
• As a wish to preserve a natural area.
• As a desire to provide a special facility
to the community.
■ As an expression of gratitude r om a
successful business to the community
that has supported it over the years.
• As a way to be remembered in the
future for an act of generosity today.
Music Shell — A Rockford Lions Club Gift
