ME Decision <br />WE Resources Ltd. <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />This study contains the results of a survey of 404 randomly <br />selected residents of the City of Mounds View. Survey responses <br />were gathered by professional interviewers between February 13, <br />and February 20, 1990. - The average interview of city residents <br />took thirty-one minutes. Random samples such as this one yield <br />results projectable -to the entire ..universe of Mounds View <br />residents within + 5.0 percent in 95 out of, 100 cases. <br />Mounds -View can best be described as a combination high <br />turnover starter -home community and maturing suburban area. <br />There are; in fact,two communities existing together. -Forty- <br />four percent.of the residents have moved to -,the city during the <br />past five years; thirty percent plan to leave in the next five <br />years. But, forty-five percent of the residents have lived in <br />Mounds View over ten years and a similar percentage have no plans <br />to move for at least the next decade. The in -migration and out- <br />migration rates suggest, in fact, that Mounds View is stabilizing <br />and become a -destination community rather than a stopover. <br />The average �cesident in Mounds View has lived in the city <br />for 9.6 years. : He/She plans to remain for at least thenext <br />decade. The average household is composed of two married adults" <br />with- at least one school -aged child ',or pre-schooler. Three - <br />,quarter of the residents own their own.homes. =The age of. the' <br />.,average resident is 39.3 years old;--- in fact, fifty-seven percent <br />reported their age within the 25-44-year.range. <br />The workforce is'a mixture of white collar and blue collar <br />households. Professional -Technical and Owner -Manager occupations <br />are' held by thirty-eight percent of the 'sample. Blue Collar <br />households are thirty-two percent. Clerical -Sales occupations <br />contribute another fourteen percent. Retirees are a low eleven <br />percent. Sixty percent of all married households are dual <br />income. The median household income was estimated at $34,600.00, <br />about $5,000.00 below the Metropolitan Area suburban norm. <br />Mounds View residents again displayed their antipathy toward <br />property tax increases. By forty-six percent to forty percent, <br />respondents opposed a property tax hike to maintain city services <br />at their current levels. Part of this may be the result of the <br />value which they placed on those services: the median rating was <br />good -to -average value; a mixed result at best. As for current <br />property tax levels, residents felt that Mounds View was about <br />average in comparison with other suburban communities.
