GREENFIELD PARK
BASEBALL FIELD Staff reported that the Mounds View Athletic
Association has been unsuccessful in raising adequate
funds to completely remodel Greenfield Park. Il was
agreed upon by the department and MVAA to request
that the $14,000 budgeted for 1990 on fencing.
Director Saarion presented options to the Commission
and opened the floor up for discussion.
The Commission agreed that the higher fence is better
than extending the fence into the wetland. Staff
stated that the MVAA will consider using a $500
donation received to construct an equipment shed and
that they would be partially responsible for grooming
the field. The Commission asked if a warning track
would be installed. Staff responded that a warning
track would be constructed. The Commission agreed
that the bleachers should be moved as shown on the
diagram. Staff noted that a letter would be written to
the residents whose yards abutted the park informing
them of the proposed action.
A motion was made by Chairperson Burmeister,
seconded by Commissioner Starr to approve the
proposed Greenfield baseball field fencing and other
revisions as shown on diagram. Motion passed:
4 ayes, 0 nayes
Director Saarion added that the MVAA has requested
that staff perform NYSCA training for their volunteer
coaches. This training will be done on May 5. Staff is
excited about the receptiveness of the MVAA regarding
certification. It was desireable for MVAA coaches to
be certified to ensure liability insurance, especially
since a great number of games are played on City
fields.
NEXT MEETING The Commission was reminded that the next meeting
will be a joint meeting with Spring Lake Park on May
241 1990 beginning at the Lakeside Beach House.
ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Commissioner Stevenson,
seconded by Commissioner Silvis to adjourn the
meeting at 8:00 p.m. Motion passed: 4 ayes, 0
nayes.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary aarion, Director
Parks, Recreation and Forestry
4
