DEPARTMENT OF PARKS,
OC±=beffOt2ZT`D F199*RY
Dear Mounds View Lion's Club:
C 0 ff of SVie
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
2401 HIGHWAY10
MOUNDS VIEW, MINN. 55112
784-3055
On behalf of the City of Mounds View I wish to request a
monetary donation for the purchase of playground equipment for
Silver View Park. This playground equipment was determined to be
a priority in the development of Silver View Park. The
installation of playground equipment is listed as priority number
three in the approved Silver View Park Improvement Plan with
installation for 1991.
Silver View Park is designated as a handicapped accessible
park and therefore it is recommended that the playground
equipment be useable by children with walking impairments or in
wheelchairs. A handicapped useable playground structure has been
selected and provides playability for.disabled children as well
as the able bodied. The structure offers slides, ramps, games,
climbing apparatus and large muscle development opportunities.
Even more important, the playground structure is fun. It is
constructed of metal and requires little maintenance. This
structure is accessible to the disabled because of the entrance
of each component. For instance, the child in a wheelchair can
wheel to the top of the slide, go down the slide, and return to
his or her wheelchair at the bottom of the slide. The ramps and
games will be accessible for use by the disabled as well as use
of the hangbars and rings. The ramps offer both the disabled and
able bodied children fun and accessible use of the playground
equipment. This structure is suggested for children ages 4- 12
years old.
The uniqueness of this playground structure is the ground
base material. It allows access by wheelchairs. The material is
in layers and provides enough cushion to break the impact of
falls, yet is sturdy enough to allow wheelchairs to function on
it. This material is called Fibar. This is the intended
material to provide for handicapped accessibility to the
components of the playground structure.
The 1990 price of the handicapped accessible playground
structure is $26240.00 including freight, materials and
installation. The Fibar is $10,475.00 including material, timber
edging and installation. This is a total cost of $36,715. If
this order is made in 1990 the distributor will subtract $4,000
off the price and will subtract another $500 if the equipment is
