The difference between the two groups of programs is the
requirements for participation. The first group of activities
does not require roll call, is inexpensive and does not require a
specific time commitment. The second set of programs requires
good attendance by the nature of the program, is usually more
expensive and has restricted enrollment.
The new format for summer playgrounds puts the program more
towards the second set of programs in that there will be a
maximum enrollment. Cost will be less than regular instruction
programs but the restricted enrollment will provide a set ratio
of participants and leaders. There may be a possibility that
some people may not get into the program.
This information is simply food for your thoughts. Safety is a
national issue. Safety of children is on the minds of all
parents. This issue is a very difficult one.
