Park and Recreation Department Philosophy_
The basic goal of the Mounds View Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department
program is to provide facilities and programs of wholesome leisure -time activities to as
many residents as possible, and to help them gain satisfaction, joy, and benefit from a
wide variety of recreational experiences. Further, it is hoped that the activities offered
the men, women, and children in the community can provide an opportunity to improve
skills, to develop and refine appreciation and form new friendships. The department is
determined that you will carry away something more than just the memories of the
program ... rather a WHOLESOME AND MEANINGFUL LEISURE TIME EXPERIENCE!
Youth Sports Program Philosophy_
The main objective of the Instructional Youth Sports Program is to provide a relaxed
environment for children to learn, and practice the wide variety of basic skills and
situations that encourage cooperative play and good sportsmanship. Creating a non-
competitive atmosphere where the child's motivation to learn is emphasized over
"winning".
Motto for Program
If you had Fun ... You have Won!
Quotables
"The purpose of youth sports programs should be to teach the child how to play the
sport, about competition, about winning and losing and about playing on a team. And
the emphasis should be on the individual going out and enjoying what he is doing.
Every game will have a winner and loser. The only successful youth sports program
is the one with a coach who will accept the losing along with the winning, last place in
the league along with the first place, and still be able to congratulate his team for their
efforts." Roger Staubach, former Dallas Cowboy Quarterback
