Instructional Youth Sports Policlow
ies
Rain Outs Make -Ups
In the event that a game or practice has to be called off due to inclement weather, the
coaches need to have a alternative plan. If game is called due to the weather, coaches
of the teams need to contact each other and come up with an agreed upon date so that
a make-up game can be played. Once this date has been determined let the Parks,
and Recreation office know so that a field can be reserved.
2. Safety Checklist
Each coach is responsible to take an area safety check before the game or practice
begins. If there are any problems notify the Parks and Recreation Department as soon
as possible.
3. Special Needs
Be aware that you may have children who have physical or mental disabilities. These
situations are to be recognized by the coaches and the activities or equipment modified
to promote maximum success for the individual. Patience, understanding, and
knowledge on working with these individuals is imperative. This includes continual
communication with the parent on the child's progress. The medical history form and
the "Parent Letters" does have a space or statement requesting parents to let the
coaches know of their children's special needs.
4. Equipment
Equipment will be handed out to each team. Check over your assigned equipment to
be sure you have sufficient quantities. Let the Athletic Supervisor know if you need
additional equipment. Coaches should check their equipment before every use. Keep
helments clean and be sure bats and catcher's equipment are not damaged or
tampered with. Do not continue using any equipment if it is damaged or tampered with,
i.e. do not attempt to "fix" equipment. Bring it to the Parks and Recreation Department
and we will replace the damaged equipment.
5. Emeraencv Action Plan
The nature of sports increases the risk of accidents. Being out in the parks also
complicates matters. It is the responsibiltiy of the coaches to develop an emergency
action plan.
6. Attendance
Verify rosters for accuracy. Any roster changes, additions, problems, etc. need to be
given to the Athletic Supervisor
7. Tee Shirts
Team shirts are to be distributed to all children at the first practice. Keep remaining
