children learn what each position does.
® A mask must be worn by the catcher.
® Umpire No -Show - If for some reason an umpire does not show up the two
coaches are urged to get a spectator to umpire or handle the umpiring between
themselves. If nothing can be worked out, the game will be rescheduled at a
later date.
® Coaches from both teams should agree on all the rules before the game.
Modifying the rules is OK, if both coaches agree and it will make the game fair
and fun for the kids.
® All players will shake hands at the completion of the game. Coaches should
stress the learning of good sportsmanship.
® Scores and standings will not be kept, a philosophy of skill development,
teamwork, and fun will be stressed.
Sportsmanship
Profanity and personal baiting of opponents by players or spectators shall not be
permitted. Abusive baiting is defined as remarks referring to the nationality, religion,
creed, or physical characteristics of an individual. The coaches shall remove anyone
from the game for violating this rule. (Note: Coaches are responsible for the behavior
of their team and their fans.)
Rain Out Policy
Where weather is a factor, the coach of each team should contact the Parks and
Recreation Department after 4:00 pm on the date of the game to find out if the games
have been cancelled. If the Recreation Department states that the games are on, each
team should report to their assigned fields; if the field is unplayable, a mutual decision
between the coaches should be made at the field. Players are to call their coaches to
find out if the game has been postponed, not the Parks and Recreation Department.
Tips for Junior Softball Coaches
® Continue to teach various strategies for offensive and defensive skills of the game
of softball.
® Continue teaching players about the specific skills involved in each position.
