Elementary Youth Softball Program
Program
am
This is a fun program designed for children 10 - 12 years old. Elementary Softball is a
program for those children who want to continue to play a summer sport in a fun and
relaxed atmosphere. This program is not designed to produce great athletes; rather it
is designed to enhance the players skills and also offers an opportunity to meet and
interact with other children.
Rosters
Official team rosters have been compiled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Any
changes must be approved by the Athletic Supervisor.
Playing Rules
USSSA Rules will prevail with the following modifications:
® Bases shall be 60 feet apart (approximately 20 - 22 big walking steps), with 1st
and 3rd bases being measured from home plate down the respective foul lines.
Second base should be aligned accordingly with 1st and 3rd bases.
® Each game shall be 5 innings or one hour and fifteen minutes long, which ever
comes first. Scheduled game times will be 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm.
No new inning of the first game may start after 7:15 pm. The home
team coach's watch shall be the official time piece.. The inning in
progress when the time limit concludes may be finished.
® The children pitch in this program. A 35 foot pitching distance should be used.
If pitchers are having trouble getting the ball across the plate, move them to a
spot where they can consistently put the ball over the plate. Coaches should
agree on this. Pitching regulations governed by USSSA rules. The minimum arc
is 3 feet from the point of delivery and a maximum arc is 10 feet from the ground.
® Batters get 4 balls and/ 3 strikes. If the batter gets 4 balls (before 3 strikes)
he/she is awarded a walk. If the batter gets 3 strikes they are considered out.
® While batting, the only players that should be on the field are the batter and the
on -deck batter. Everyone else should remain seated in the teams batting order.
® One half inning consists of 3 outs or once through the entire batting order. All
players will bat, regardless of whether or not they are playing in the field. The
batting order will remain the same through out the game.
® One base is awarded on overthrows that go out of play. Runner may continue
to run on overthrows that stay in fair territory.
® It is recommended that the maximum number of players placed in the field is 10
players. There should be one catcher, one pitcher, one player at all infield
positions, and four outfielders. The other players will then be rotated in each
inning with everyone getting their chance to sit on the bench. All players must
play a minimum of three innings in the field.
