Park Notes 4 <br /> Christmas tree Thinking about Christmas? Why not give a Christmas tree this year? The ideal gift • <br /> Safe for the person with almost everything,and you can even give one if that special <br /> some one does not have a yard in which to plant it. For the second year the Friends <br /> will have a special alive-and-growing Christmas tree sale. Trees may be purchased <br /> for planting in any park in Ramsey County,or in your own yard. If this is a gift, we <br /> will send a Christmas gift card.In the spring after planting is completed we will send <br /> a map locating your tree. Christmas trees are$30. To order, call or wait for the <br /> arrival of your winter newsletter for an order form. <br /> Phalen Creek Tra I l Phalen Creek Regional Trail moves from aspiration to asphalt <br /> Before the leaves begin to turn color next fall, you may be able to take your bike for <br /> . a spin on the newly paved trails along the former Burlington Northern Railroad <br /> corridor as major trail sections are scheduled for completion next summer. <br /> The Met Council approved St.Paul's plan and a grant($148,400) which will match a <br /> federal grant($593,600) for development plus acquisition of property on 7th Street <br /> near Swede Hollow Park. <br /> Two miles of trail in Ramsey County from Frost Avenue to Beam Avenue in <br /> Maplewood will also be completed. The 1995 construction will provide a vital link <br /> to the Gateway Segment of the Munger Trail and other paths at Maplewood Mall. <br /> Vandalism on Vandalism including grafitti, destroyed trees and plantings, stolen signs, and burned <br /> parks agenda facilities plagues the parks. Money spent on repairs is obviously not available for <br /> other purposes.The Friends want to help with solutions to prevent vandalism and <br /> catch perpetrators. Do you have ideas on how? Call and tell us your solutions. For • <br /> now we have one proposal: if you see vandalism occurring or see people clearly up <br /> to no good, call 911. We realize that is tough if you are in the middle of a park on a <br /> bike,but act as quickly as you can. A call to the city park's department in the <br /> morning does nothing to prevent the problem, and it is only prevention that protects. <br /> Membership Are you up to date? Have a friend who is not a Friend? We rely on you for our <br /> existence. If you have not renewed or have never quite gotten around to joining, <br /> send your membership check to the Friends. You may send any amount and we will <br /> be grateful.
