., REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
-STALE REJQjn
CITY COUNCIL. MEETING DATE October 10, 1994
item liesenpnon: Approve Operation of Woodcrest Park Rink Activities
Administrator's Review/Recommendation: r
- No comments to supplement this report •'
- Comments attached. }
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY -
Agenda Section: 8 • I
Report Number- 94-1337C
Report Date: 10-6-94
Council Action:
C Special Order of Business
C Public Hearings
k^ Consent Agenda
C Council Business
Staff is requesting, with the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation
Commission, approval to open Woodcrest Park ice skating rink activities
this winter. The costs would be the hourly wage of a park attendant, an
estimated cost of $2,348.50 for 427 hours from December 24 - February
12, 1995. The rink would be a small pleasure rink. Preparation would
include the installation of lighting off the park building. The. Park
crew, with the use of the water truck for flooding purposes will be able
to establish and maintain this additional, small pleasure rink.
(Pleasure rinks take much less time than hockey rinks because there is
no need to shovel the boards, move boards and nets, etc.).
Woodcrest Park has been without a rink for approximately 3 years. There
have been requests from the neighborhood for skating facilities.
Provision of a pleasure rink would serve the needs of those that live
within the blocks from County Road H2 and County Road H, Long Lake Road
to Silver Lake Road and perhaps further west depending upon ease of
crossing Silver Lake Road.
The Parks and Recreation Department is offering a new after school latch
key program at the rinks (See information attached). This program is
being held in the park buildings, offering after school ice skating
activities. It would be nice to be able to include Woodcrest Park in
this program since it is the only location available -to the children
south of Highway 10. School District 621 is working out the bussing
schedule to accommodate this program.
Mary Saarion, i
iix l t li . f
of Parks, Recreation and
Forestry
To approve the operation of Woodcrest Park rink activities for 1994-1995
winter season.
