MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FROM: MARY SAARION DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 1994 SUBJECT: 1995 GOALS There are a few goals that the Parks and Recreation Commission has not completed from 1994 and a few ideas that have been discussed during 1994 that you may wish to consider for 1995 goals. The 1994 goals which have not been completed include: 1. Park land acquisition. . . . not that we haven't tried!!! There is the possibility of acquiring the land abutting Groveland Park. Other possibilities for park land acquisition can be discussed. 2. Woodcrest Park development. The statement was "why add more parkland when the parks you have are not developed". This was referring to Woodcrest Park - which we know is very difficult to develop because of the high water table. But maybe we should put an all out effort into doing whatever we can at Woodcrest to "spruce it up" and offer more diverse uses. 3. Expand paved trails. We were lucky enough to get a start of a paved trail at City Hall. Additional priorities are Greenfield Park, Silver View Park and City Hall Park - looped trails. 4. Silver View Park storm water culvert project is yet unfinished. There may be hope with a joint venture of storm water management and park development. We need to continue to pursue this project. 5. Consider the possibilities of leasing or purchasing existing buildings (ie. the Tom Thumb on Knollwood and Cty Rd H2, strip mall space, the Bel Rae) for housing community services including teen center activities, Senior Citizen services, County Health programs, social services, etc. 6. Be a partner in the planning of Hwy 10 redevelopment project along with other City Commissions for a parkway ambiance. 7. Purchase 2 properties along the south border of Ardan Park for park expansion and to comply closer to Compost criteria. These are a few suggestions for you to ponder as your mind spins with other ideas for 1995 goals - to be shared at the Dec. 1 meeting.
