MEMO
To: Park and Rec Commissioners
From: Director of Public Works, Michael Ulrich
Subject: September Meeting
Date: September 21, 2000
I will not be in attendance at the meeting scheduled for the 27`x' of September. I only have one
item of which I would like you to consider. Staff has received one bid for the playground
equipment at Woodcrest Park. It is from the same manufacturer of the Lambert equipment. This
equipment and related materials have withstood the harsh elements of our seasons and performed
very well with the users. Initially staff had perceived that a smaller structure would be more
practical at Woodcrest, based on the available space. Upon receipt of the one layout, it appears
that a larger structure, which will accommodate a larger age group, will fit in the area. This
structure is designed for ages 2 to 12. In providing a larger structure the initial cost estimate will
be exceeded. Approximately $13,000 to $18,000 was requested for this expenditure.
Staff recommends purchasing the larger, more versatile structure, which will satisfy a greater age
group for a longer period of time. This will require the City Council to authorize additional
funding from the Park Dedication Fund. These structures are anticipated to last 10 to 12 years.
Staff requests the Park and Rec Comm. discuss this and relay their decision back to staff so that
the appropriate action may be taken at the next regular Council meeting.
Other activities of the Parks Department this month:
Aeration and over seeding of the athletic fields
Mowing
Spraying Goose Repellent
Community Center maintenance
Repair as needed
Preparing some equipment for storage, others for winter use
* Steve Dazenski, Park Foreman will be attending the meeting in my absence.
