From:Tarantino, Timothy (DOC)
To:Jon Sevald
Subject:Tarantino driveway appeal
Date:Friday, May 29, 2020 7:13:53 AM
Attachments:Outlook-tknmy0j4.png
Caution: This email originated outside our organization; please use caution.
I would like to appeal the City's decision to when the end of my driveway is replaced during
Quincy Street reconstruction project, to replace the new section 5' from the property line.
I purchased my home in 2004, the driveway was already in. If the 5' side setback was in the
ordinance then, there must have been a variance or at least a agreement between the owner
of my home and the previous neighbor to the south of me.
While I agree with the 5' setback rule to allow emergency vehicle utility vehicles, to help
maintain the look and appeal of properties, how my driveway end will not look good at all. I
take great pride in the appearance my home and my yard, and it shows.
Currently when I back up either my pick up truck or a trailer into my driveway, it's a easy move
(back straight up) With the proposed 5 ' set back for the new section, I would have to jockey
my vehicle or a trailer around to stay on the driveway and have the potential risk of hitting my
wife's vehicle in the driveway.
I have in-ground irrigation also. I could either install a sprinkler head at the corner of my
driveway and the street like I currently do now, but with the narrower driveway I have the
great potential risk of driving over the sprinkler head and damaging it at a cost of $20 a piece. I
just know that we will drive over sprinkler heads over time, destroying them. Or I could not
place a sprinkler head at the corner of the driveway and the street, but that doesn't do any
good, as I just want my yard to look the best as it can.
My current neighbors to the south of me don't have a issue at all with my driveway being
within the 5' set back rule.
In closing, I'd like the City to reconsider their decision on my driveway to when my driveway is
re-installed having a 5' set back and replace my driveway as it currently is configured because:
*The ease of backing up
*The risk of damaging sprinkler heads
*The appearance of the edged driveway.
*The risk of hitting another vehicle that could be in the driveway, because of the end of the
driveway being narrow at the end and having to jockey around the vehicle.
*Take into consideration that my neighbors have no issue with my driveway being within
