MEMO TO: RIC MINETOR, CITY ENGINEER
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR 1
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
UA T E: JULY 11, 1989
SUBJECT: SILVER VIEW PICNIC SHELTER
I talked to Dan Boxrud (SEH) today and asked him to provide me with
estimated figures for water and sewer if the picnic shelter were to be
located on County Road I where the soccer field currently lies.
Assuming a 30 foot set -back, the cost of hooking up to the County Road I
watermain would be about $1,000 using a 1 inch service. At this
location, the sewer utility could be connected to the Mounds View Dtive
service at an approximate ccst of $8,000. Dan did not recommend the
site west of the entry road on County Road I because of poor drainage.
I am against this County Road I location even though the utility cost is
significantly cheaper than the originaliy proposed location., south of the
parking lot. The location on County Road I would negate the soccer field,
would have no aesthetic atmosphere, would require users to walk a
distance from the parking lot, or encourage parking on County Road I.
Also, this location would be far from other facilities such as the
playground, volleyball court, pathways and play court. The location
would be abutting a street; a potential safety hazard for smal: children
attending picnics.
MS/3L
cr-: Crr COUNCIL
