He encouraged the City Council to be patient as 2 these cases make their way through the court system. 3 4 Mayor Mueller questioned if the Police Department could order additional portable radar signs. 5 Police Chief Harder commented he would be happy to order more signs if the Council would 6 support the purchase. He noted each sign costs approximately $2,500. He discussed how these 7 signs were more effective than the speed trailers. He indicated these signs can be solar or battery 8 powered. 9 10 Mayor Mueller requested the Police Chief report back to the Council with further information on 11 the purchase of additional portable radar signs. 12 13 Mayor Mueller questioned what the public can do to avoid having their cars stolen or hijacked. 14 Police Chief Harder recommended the public not leave their cars running empty with the keys in 15 the ignition, especially with children in the car. He encouraged the public to not make themselves 16 a target and to not allow people to walk up to them at an intersection. He encouraged the public 17 have good situational awareness. 18 19 8. COUNCIL BUSINESS 20 A. Resolution 9387, Approving 2021 Public Works Seasonal Positions. 21 22 Human Resources Coordinator Ewald requested the Council approve the 2021 Public Works 23 seasonal positions. She explained these individuals would assist the Public Works Department 24 during the spring, summer and early fall. She noted returning employees would receive $15 per 25 hour and new hires would receive $14 per hour. 26 27 MOTION/SECOND: Bergeron/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 9387, 28 Approving 2021 Public Works Seasonal Positions. 29 30 31 A roll call vote was taken. 32 33 Ayes — 5 Nays 0 Motion carried. 34 35 B. Resolution 9388, Approving the Hire of Wesley Vert to the Position of Police 36 Officer. 37 38 Human Resources Coordinator Ewald requested the Council approve the hire of Wesley Vert to 39 the position of Police Officer. She explained the City had an experienced officer submit a letter 40 of resignation last fall. After holding interviews and necessary background requirements, staff 41 was recommending this vacancy be filled by Wesley Vert. It was noted Officer Vert would begin 42 his service with the Mounds View Police Department on February 21, 2021. 43 44 MOTION/SECOND: Hull/Meehlhause. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 9388, 45 Approving the Hire of Wesley Vert to the Position of Police Officer.
