MOUNDS ViEw
of Mounds View Staff R,
Item No: 8F
Meeting Date: March 8, 2021
Type of Business: Council Business
Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9406, Approving the purchase of an Intrusion Alarm
System for the Community Center
Background:
The Public Works Department is responsible for the building maintenance at all City facilities, this
includes the fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems at the Community Center.
Discussion:
During the annual fire alarm testing and maintenance, it was discovered that the fire alarm panel
and the intrusion systems were not functioning correctly; they were tied together and the panel is
obsolete. The fire alarm vendor highly recommended that the fire alarm system and intrusion
system be separated. The systems were separated and the vendor was able to ensure the fire
alarm system was functioning and working properly.
Staff received a proposal from Pro -Tech Design, vendor for the City facilities, to replace the
intrusion alarm system and controls for $15,471.82. (State Cooperative Purchasing Venture,
Contract No. S-813(5).) The proposal includes adding door contacts on all exterior doors and the
replacement of all existing motion detectors with newer models.
The 2021 budget, Special Projects, 480-4160-3030, includes $15,124.00 for the installation of the
intrusion system, the difference of $347.82 would come from the same fund.
Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements.
Financial Impact The 2021 budget, Special Projects, fund 480-4160-3030 includes $15,124.00
for the installation of the intrusion alarm system at the Community Center.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the proposal from Pro -Tech Design Inc. of
Minnetonka, MN to replace the intrusion alarm system at the Community Center, for $15,471.82,
to be funded from account 480-4160-3030, Special Projects Fund.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
The Mounds View Vision
A Thriving Desirable Community
