MOUNDS ViEw <br />of Mounds View Staff R, <br />Item No: 8F <br />Meeting Date: March 8, 2021 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9406, Approving the purchase of an Intrusion Alarm <br />System for the Community Center <br />Background: <br />The Public Works Department is responsible for the building maintenance at all City facilities, this <br />includes the fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems at the Community Center. <br />Discussion: <br />During the annual fire alarm testing and maintenance, it was discovered that the fire alarm panel <br />and the intrusion systems were not functioning correctly; they were tied together and the panel is <br />obsolete. The fire alarm vendor highly recommended that the fire alarm system and intrusion <br />system be separated. The systems were separated and the vendor was able to ensure the fire <br />alarm system was functioning and working properly. <br />Staff received a proposal from Pro -Tech Design, vendor for the City facilities, to replace the <br />intrusion alarm system and controls for $15,471.82. (State Cooperative Purchasing Venture, <br />Contract No. S-813(5).) The proposal includes adding door contacts on all exterior doors and the <br />replacement of all existing motion detectors with newer models. <br />The 2021 budget, Special Projects, 480-4160-3030, includes $15,124.00 for the installation of the <br />intrusion system, the difference of $347.82 would come from the same fund. <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements. <br />Financial Impact The 2021 budget, Special Projects, fund 480-4160-3030 includes $15,124.00 <br />for the installation of the intrusion alarm system at the Community Center. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends the City Council approve the proposal from Pro -Tech Design Inc. of <br />Minnetonka, MN to replace the intrusion alarm system at the Community Center, for $15,471.82, <br />to be funded from account 480-4160-3030, Special Projects Fund. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
