MOUNDS VIEW <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />Item No: 8C <br />Meeting Date: October 11, 2021 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9477, Cost Participation with Ramsey County to <br />enhance safety at the crosswalk Silver Lake Road and Bronson <br />Drive <br />Background/Discussion: <br />The Ramsey County Public Works Department reviewed pedestrian safety of the <br />crosswalk at Silver Lake Road and Bronson Drive. Ramsey County Public Works <br />determined that this location warrants additional treatments other than the existing <br />painted cross walk and is proposing to install a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon <br />(RRFB) system. <br />The County is requesting that the City of Mounds View participate with 50% of the total <br />cost for this project; approximately $15,000.00. The RRFB will be solar powered and <br />ongoing maintenance would be the responsibility of the City of Mounds View. This <br />maintenance would be include knock downs and battery replacement when required. <br />Staff discussed this project with Finance Director Beer and the funding for this project <br />would come from the Special Project Funds, account 480-4160-7050. <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements. <br />Financial Impact: No Financial Impact to the 2021 Budget. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends the City Council approve the attached resolution, participating with <br />Ramsey County and the RRFB project at the location of Silver Lake Road and Bronson <br />Drive.
