PROCLAMATION OF BUILDING SAFETY MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the "Building Code" was adopted by the Mounds View Town Board on July 30, <br />1954 (Ordinance 15). The Minnesota State Building Code was adopted by reference, by the Mounds <br />View City Council, effective July 1, 1972, and amended from time to time; and, <br />WHEREAS, about 13,200 people live, and 6,700 people work in Mounds View. The 2022 <br />estimated market value is $1.4 billion. These lives and property are protected through sound plan review <br />and inspections conducted by public officials trained in building and fire safety; and, <br />WHEREAS, These modern building codes include safeguards to protect the public from hazards <br />such as hurricanes, snowstorms, tornadoes, wildland fires, floods and earthquakes; and, <br />WHEREAS, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council, publisher of <br />the 2020 Minnesota Building Code, to remind the public about the critical role of our communities' <br />largely unknown protectors of public safety; our local code officials, who assure us of safe, efficient and <br />livable buildings that are essential to America's prosperity; and <br />WHEREAS, "Safety for All: Building Codes in Action," is the theme for Building Safety Month <br />2022. Building Safety Month encourages appropriate steps everyone can take to ensure the safety of our <br />built environment, and recognizes that the implementation of safety codes by local and state agencies has <br />saved lives and protected homes and businesses in Mounds View, since 1954; and, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Mounds View, <br />hereby proclaims the month of May 2022 as Building Safety Month. <br />Adopted this 9" day of May, 2022. <br />ATTEST: <br />(seal) <br />Carol A.
