MouNDI EW
City of Mounds View Staff Report
Item No: 08J
Meeting Date: November 14, 2022
Type of Business: Council Business
Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks & Recreation
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9645, Authorization for Storm Sewer Maintenance
at Woodcrest Park
Background / Discussion:
Over the last several years Staff as responded to standing water complaints on Silver
Lake Road, by Woodcrest Park. Resulting high water levels is due to the wetland drainage
area located in Woodcrest Park. Over the years, decaying vegetation has reduced the
flow in the outfall of the wetland causing storm water to overflow onto Silver Lake Road.
In 2020 Stantec conducted an survey, and maintenance plan for the Western portion of
the wetland, next to Silver Lake Road. A permit with the Minnesota Board of Water and
Soil Resources was applied for and has been approved to remove built up sediment.
Staff obtained a quote from Dave Perkins Contracting Inc. to excavate and remove
approximately 196 yards of sediment and haul off site for a cost of $25,200.00.
The funding for this repair is budgeted in the Storm Sewer fund, 745-4415-5150, which
includes $30,000.00 for Storm Sewer Cleaning and $30,000.00 for Storm Sewer repairs.
Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements.
Financial Impact: No Impact to the 2022 Budget as repairs are included in the Storm
Sewer Fund, 745-4415-5150.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval and authorization for the necessary storm sewer repairs and
sediment removals at Woodcrest Park by Dave Perkins Contracting Inc. at the cost of
$25,200.00 payable from the Storm Sewer fund, 745-4415-5150.
Respectfully submitted,
c &
Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
The Mounds View Vision
A Thriving Desirable Community
