MouNDs VIEw Item No: 08K Meeting Date: November 14, 2022 Type of Business: CB Administrator Review: City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9649, Renaming Random Park to Hodges Park Introduction: The City Council is asked to approve the attached resolution approving the renaming of Random Park to Hodges Park. Background/Discussion: At the August 26, 2022 Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting (Commission), the Mounds View Lions requested the Commission consider renaming Random Park to Hodges. This request was to honor both Don and Amy Hodges, two very dedicated residents both recognized as Citizens of the Year. Kathy Anderson, a member of the Mounds View Lions, presented and read a letter (attached) to the Commission outlining the years of service to the City and residents of Mounds View that both Don and Amy had dedicated. Don and Amy were involved in numerous civic organizations and dedicated many hours and years to Mounds View. At the September 22, 2022 Commission meeting, the Commission reviewed the request and had also requested Staff research how Random Park was named. Staff found that the land had been acquired by the City through tax forfeiture. The park land has a plat name of "Randoms First Addition"; therefore the name Random Park was given. Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Where Residents can work, live and play safely and show pride in the community. Financial Impact: No financial Impact to the 2022 Budget. Recommendation: The Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission along with Staff recommends the City Council approve the attached resolution renaming Random Park to officially Hodges Park.
