City of Mounds View 12040 Comprehensive Plan
Revisioning Mounds View Boulevard
In past years, a significant portion of traffic has been diverted from Mounds View
Boulevard to State Highway 10, bypassing much of the city. This reconfiguration
brings new opportunities as well as challenges. With much of the traffic diverted
from the area, fewer people are passing by the local businesses each day.
The bypass of automotive traffic also provides new opportunities for creating an
attractive destination. Mounds View Boulevard could better function for people
using a range of transportation options, including walking, biking, use of mass
transit, and driving. The City will study the feasibility of reconstructing Mounds View
Boulevard in the coming years. Transportation studies will be completed in tandem
with land use studies, as each greatly effects and is dependent on the other. For
topics related to land use along Mounds View Boulevard, see Chapter 2.In 2002,
a cooridor improvement plan was completed for the Boulevard, addressing
automobile traffic, pedestiran trails, and landscaping. The City has completed
most of the trail system, and implemented a scaled down landscaping plan foused
on intersections. The more exsensive parts of the plan, including realigning
intersections, and landscaping county road medians. is yet to be addressed.
10' Trail
•
Guardral+s Where
Trees are Planted
In Median
E9 _ 1 " WR
12'-0"
!if edWan
225-0'
32'43"
MOUND VIEW
®I
1171., m o32ana
Typical Soot° n Through Mal
r rhP
4y x
8
,1k lid 11 11.-1
I
- T
3rn
11
Ornamental Tree
Shade Troll
Rainwater
Runoff holding
Area
65'-0"
Highway 10Reconstruction
and Revitalization Plan
April 24, 2902
UPS
Chapter 5: Transportation 15-6
