CM – 4:35 Tuesday June 18, 2019, speaking with Brian Amundsen regarding concerns that were raised during the May 21, 2019 Charter Commission meeting and some other things that we need
to talk about. First and foremost I want to thank you for coming in and talking to us. At our last city Council meeting SG made a recommendation that we have face to face communication
between senior charter commission members you and Jonathan Thomas, as well as former chair of Charter Commission and two other charter commission members that have threatened to resign.
She also indicated she wanted Bill here as voice of reason and Al volunteered to come and he may have a few words of wisdom.to say
I will start out by saying we have a lot to cover in a short period of time but the gist of this meeting is to ask you once again to if you would please resign your position with the
Charter Commission. We would like your feedback and information and we have information to share about the feedback we received today from the resigning members of the Charter Commission
who refused to meet face to face with you. That was all three, they absolutely refused to be in the same room, when we talked to them today, and one of them chose not to give any behavior
other than what was exemplified on the tape of the Charter Commission meeting.
The others had mentioned feedback where there did not appear to respect for the members of the Charter commission or community in the lack of respect for the hair and the interaction
with the city attorney. I think you noticed during the meeting that a couple of the members asked what are we doing here. Russ Warren was especially vocal about picking the duties
of the Secretary you handed out and said two or three times this is what is says, this is what it is, why are we spending any more time talking about this. I understand that you’re
concerned and asked for clarification of the Chair but that was basically encapsulated in the discussion during the approval of the agenda process. And it just signified 4.11 Minute
Mark that as a Council and a Mayor we can’t sit back and do nothing when at the end of one meeting a Charter Commission member has upset 5 people enough that they do not want to be
on the charter commission anymore, that is five people out of nine people. And Brian, I think you knew from the body language and reaction you were getting from the other members there
that there was a great deal of conflict in the room and people felt very uncomfortable. But in my reviewing of that meeting 2 or 3 times, it appeared to me that you decided to carry
on with your personal mission and didn’t show the respect for the chair, the other commission members, the city attorney or even the community at large by insisting on concluding your
own agenda for the meeting, and I don’t mean necessarily amending the agenda that the chair had submitted but by pursuing your opportunity for clarification if you will for duties of
the secretary which was clearly defined in the bylaws attachment that you presented at the meeting. And I am sure you have some things to say so I am going to pause and let that sink
in for a minute and I have to tell you that this is very difficult for us to have this conversation but based on the feedback we have received we need to have this conversation and
I think that I will be quiet now because conversation is about listening and it is my turn to listen.
BA – OK. I am still listening. The purpose of the meeting, as I understood it, was to have a conversation and discuss the council concerns. Bill, Al do you have things you want to
add what Carol has said so far?
BB – I would like to hear your interpretation of the meeting of the 21st, how you felt that meeting went at the time and on reflecting on that.
Pause the BA – Al, do you have any questions
AH- I guess I can hold off until I hear from till we hear from you.
