Jonathan Thomas Call

Tuesday June 4, 2019 3:01 PM
Initially called Jonathan at 9:45 AM but received VM and left message. Jonathan called bat at 11:51 AM and left VM with me advising he was back and I could call.
Called Jonathan back at 3:01 PM with Mayor present in my office, advised him Mayor was present and we were on speaker phone.
Began conversation by sharing with Jonathan we wanted to talk Charter Commission issues to which Jonathan responded by sharing he had done an in-depth review of the workshop packet materials,
his time goes back further than what I had shown, he was begged to join the commission as there was serious conflict and he was not part of that problem but was recognized in the community
as someone who had skills/ability to bring people together and be a unite them. He shared some more along this line.
When he finished I asked if he had seen or watched the tape from Monday night’s meeting and he had not. I then shared that council, as he knows, is concerned about the turnover on the
commission to which he shared concern and unsure what to do at which point I shared that the council felt, along with me, that he (along with Brian) were part of the problem and the
data and records prepared showed they were the one constant. I also talked about Marissa’s resignation and advised him there were two pending and the purpose of my call was to follow
up on council direction and inquire as to his willingness to resign and absent that, advised him that the council would send a letter to the court asking the Judge to consider removal
prior to the term expiring.
He advised us it would not be wise to remove the two longest serving member and not to do that and if we did he would advise the judge that it was me (Nyle) who is “trying to take over
everything in city government” and that the Commission does everything by majority. He is in full agreement that changes need to be made and he felt he was supportive of Marissa and
tried to help her.
I shared again that he should watch the tape as all council members spoke and that Attorney Riggs spoke and advised the Council the Judge was likely to and should reach out to both him
and Brian and that he would get a copy of our letter which would be discussed at the Council meeting Monday night.
We ended the conversation agreeing that there was a process for appointments and removal and that reasonable people can disagree and not be disagreeable and this was the process.
The call ended at 3:11 PM
