From the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission:

Greenfield Park Playground Equipment

In May, new playground equipment will be installed at Greenfield Park. This project is a great example of hard work, dedication, and community spirit. A group of neighborhood residents
got together and decided that the playground equipment needed to be updated. The Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission did recognize the need to update the play equipment, but
due to a limited budget, had scheduled the update several years from now in the City’s long-term plan. The neighborhood group, however, felt the need was more urgent and presented
the Commission with a proposal. This proposal included volunteering their time and assistance to help seek donations to fund the project. Donations were received from numerous area
organizations and businesses, including two generous donations from the Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce. The donations received totaled more than
$16,000. These funds, combined with budgeted Park funds, made this playground project a go. What you can expect to see is a state of the art playground that will include a toddler
area, merry-go-round, and rock-climbing wall. Thank you to those that donated and to the group of residents for their effort. Look for a park dedication ceremony coming in June.

Lakeside Lions Park Fishing Pier

The Cities of Mounds View and Spring Lake Park along with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be installing a fishing pier. They are aiming for the pier to be installed
by June 5th in time for Spring Lake Park’s Tower Days celebration. The park has been in a general upgrade mode lately. In the fall of 2004 a new gazebo and parking lot were constructed.
Other improvements scheduled for later this summer include the addition of park benches and picnic tables.

Groveland Park Building

The City is currently investigating the feasibility of replacing the Groveland Park Building. Approximately twenty years ago, the City purchased four (4) temporary schoolroom buildings
to be relocated within City Parks. These were located at Woodcrest, Random, Hillview, and Groveland Parks. The Woodcrest building was removed several years ago and the Hillview building
was recently replaced with a permanent concrete block structure. The Groveland Park building has reached the end of its useful life and now must be removed.

Last fall, the City Council authorized the preparation of plans and cost estimates to replace the existing building. The Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission is currently working
on developing draft plans. The proposed building design is similar to the Hillview building. It has a central open area, restrooms with both interior and exterior access, and a mechanical
room. The proposed design also has a kitchen / serving area to maximize it usefulness. When finalized, the plans will be submitted to the City Council for consideration. If the City
Council finds the replacement of the Groveland Park Building in the City best interest and cost effective, construction may occur later this summer.
