City of Mounds View Comprehensive Plan
Wetlands and Drainage
Wetlands and ponding areas serve as holding areas for storm runoff, filter ground water supplies,
and provide habitat areas for wildlife. Wetlands have been protected, for the most part, as Mounds
View has developed.Mounds View has wetland protection and flood plain regulations in place. The
City of Mounds View also works cooperatively with Rice Creek Watershed District to ensure that
development does not adversely affect wetlands and drainage.Figure 1 on page 13 generally shows
the existing wetlands in the community.
Figure 2 on page 14 illustrates the six city drainage districts that have been designated. District
boundaries were determined by the direction of drainage flow and the watercourse the drainage
flows to.Drainage systems include ditches, drainageways, and storm sewers. Storm water problems
are limited to some local trouble spots. There is no need for major expansion or major alteration to
the current system. New development will be reviewed to ensure that the current system is not
adversely affected.
Soils
The majority of the soils present in Mounds View offer slight to moderate limitations to
development. Potential development limitations are shown in Table 1 below and Figure 3 on page
15.
TABLE 1: Soil Limitations
Soil Type Description Slight Moderate Severe
Limitation Limitation Limitation
158 B,C,D:Zimmerman Well drained loamy fine sand X
161:Isanti Poorly drained loamy fine sand X
162:Lino Somewhat poorly drained loamy fine sand X
265:Soderville Somewhat poorly drained loamy fine sand X
540:Seelyville Muck Very poorly drained muck X
543:Markey Muck Very poorly drained muck X
859 B:Urban Land-Zimmerman Complex Excessively drained loamy fine sand X
863:Urban Land-Lino Complex Somewhat poorly drained loamy fine sand X
1027:Udorthents,Wet Substratum Heterogeneous earthy fill material X
1039:Urban Land Developed areas with 90%impervious surface X
1055:A uolls and Histosols,Ponded IVery poorlydrained mineral and organic soils X
Source:Ramsey County Soil Survey
12
