•
MEMO TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Staff
DATE: February 24 , 1982
SUBJECT: Re-cap of Winter Skating Program
The five winter skating rinks were officially closed on Thursday,
February 18 , 1982 . Based on the quality of our staff, weather,
ice condition, portable buildings, and general administration,
staff would say that the 1981-1982 skating season was not our best
year.
We experience some bitter cold weather and heavy snow which forced
us to close the rinks for three consecutive weekends. We had to
fire three employees due to misconduct and experienced some major
vandalism at two park sites :
• From a positive perspective staff felt the portable buildings
worked as well as can be expected and given the myriad of issues
that needed Co' be dealt with, new steps, texgas, electrical modifi-
cations, benches, etc . , we were able to provide a basic skating
program at a minimal cost.
Staff will be reviewing the skating program in greater depth,
specifically the issues of vandalism at Thursday' s meeting.
•
