1110
MEMO TO: Mounds View City Council I
Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson , Director / /
•
Parks , Recreation and Forer
y
DATE : January 14 , 1982
RE : School Closing Update
As you ' re aware the School Board has slated Edgewood and Johanna Jr.
Highs and Red Oak and Ralph Reeder Elementary Schools to be closed as
day schools , effective September 1 , 1982. At this time no decision
has been made regarding the future use and/or disposal of the school
buildings.
I have recently been appointed to chair the Community Education Task
III/0
Force Committee to explore alternatives to the proposed school closings.
To that end our committee is currently meeting weekly to address the
myriad of issues that are at hand. Enclosed is a copy of our initial
sub-committee 's report which attempts to define the scope of our
project.
This report was reviewed by the entire Advisory Council on Tuesday,
January 12 , 1982 and was accepted with some minor changes. Although no
recommendations have been made at this time there has been considerable
discussion regarding keeping Edgewood Jr. High open as a C.R.C. or on some
skeletal basis (see attached article) .
Staff will keep the Council and Parks and Recreation Commission informed
as our sub-committee progresses. We feel that through this direct involve-
ment we will be able to have a great deal of input as to the final disposition
of the two schools in our municipality.
III/1
If you have any questions , feel free to give me a call at 784-3055, ext. #41.
