Fr-- _ ___ ____ ___ . . ___
11111 MEMO TO: Mounds View City Council
City Administrator Pauley ,
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Director )V
Parks , Recreation and Fore tr ,'
DATE: October 8, 1981 4/
RE : Contract Modification
As you ' re aware, the Mounds View City Council has awarded the rough and
final grading contract to W.J . Ebertz Construction Company for the Phase
I construction of Silver View Park, for a total of $32 ,000.00. We are
currently emersed in the grading project and our current timeline hopes
to complete the rough and finish grading by November 1, 1981.
We have experienced some minor setbacks in our grading program due to the
poor quality of material that has been excavated from the ponding area.
The initial proposal as adopted by the City Council in September, 1980,
projected 228,000 cubic yards of material which would be used for fill in
11111 the City parkland. At this time we have added approximately 40,000 cubic
yards of material and will be needing an additional 20,000 cubic yards to complete
the park as initially proposed.
As it appears from our past experience and the probing we have done on the
eastern edge of the pond that no additional good material will be available
for the site. Consequently , we have modified the Park plan and lowered the
grade approximately 2 feet on the western edge to accomodate for the lack
of fill . In addition to modifying the existing grade plan which will not
significantly alter the park plans to any degree, we have worked out an agree-
ment with Fred Haas , Mary Anderson Construction , which would allow the City to
take 5 ,000 yards of good material from Mary Anderson's Development for use in
the City Park. Mr. Haas has allowed us this material at no cost with the under-
standing that the City and current grading contractor will move the material .
The major reason for the fill is for the infields of the two proposed softball
fields which will amount to 5,000 cubic yards of material and W.J. Ebertz Company
has indicated they will work with the City in moving the material . The projected
111/1 cost for moving the material is $5,000.00 or one dollar per cubic yard. The
developer has indicated they will split the cost with the City in moving the material
so the City's actual cost 11 be $2 ,500.00.
