• REGARDING: YOUTH STATE TOURNAMENT
DATE: September 21, 1981
MEMORANDUM
The following thirteen communities were surveyed as to the number of youth teams
participating in the annual State Tournament. Of the 13 communities surveyed,
only 3 communities submitted teams and those teams were in the Senior High age
division. The remaining ten communities organize an instructional in-house
league with a round robin schedule of games. Some of the communities also provided
an in-house recreational playoff or mini-tournament. Most of the communities provide
participation certificates or ribbons. Three communities provide trophies to the
upper divisions ; Junior and Senior High divisions.
Youth State Tournament registration fee is $35.00 per team. The majority of teams
participating in the Youth State Tournaments are community out-of-the-metro-area . . .
communities such as Austin , Owatonna , Mankato, Albert Lea, Winona, Duluth, and
Faribault. Very few suburban metro area communities send teams to Youth State
Tournaments.
III It seems that most suburban communities are offering an instructional youth athletic
program. The State Tournament does not conform to the instructional/recreational
program concept.
DOES YOUR COMMUNITY SEND WHAT TYPE OF YOUTH
YOUTH TEAMS TO PROGRAM DOES YOUR
COMMUNITY STATE TOURNEY?
