PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION t
,MINUTES •
,
• Page 2
June 25 , 1981
411
CHAIRMAN' S REPORT it will be a welcome and positive addition to the
(Continued) community.
VISITOR PRESENTATION A small contingency of the Lambert Park area was on
hand to discuss their feelings regarding the Lambert
tot lot . Staff recommended that the Lambert Park tot
lot issue be moved up the agenda to discuss that issue
at this time rather than delaying it until later. The
Commission concurred .
LAMBERT PARK TOT LOT Staff reviewed the correspondence dated June 11, 1981
to Rita Waste which outlined staff' s position regarding
Mrs . Waste ' s concerns about the tot lot . Staff prole,
a brief history as to how the tot lot had been designed
and developed in 1978 , stating that the Commission
intended to develop a variety of tot lots through-out
the community and that the tot lot at Lambert was primal
ily designed to serve the secondary school age children
A needs assessment was developed prior to the establish-
ment of the tot lot and it was felt that a mini-obstacle
course would challenge both the physical and mental
needs of the neighborhood youth . Staff concurred with
Mrs . Waste that the Lambert Park tot lot had not been
as effective as had been originally desired, or hoped.
At this point staff turned the meeting over to Chairpers
Burmeister who invited the visitors to address the
Commission . The major concerns that were addressed by
Mrs . Waste and her neighbors centered around the follow-
ing issues :
1 . They would like to have a more traditional •
tot lot, swings , merry-grounds , slides , etc .
2 . Their children do not play on the equipment
• because they don' t know what to do with it .
