I
MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commissioners
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Iirecv
Parks, Recreation and :,6? .
DATE: September 22 , 1981
RE: Monthly Update
The following is a potpourri of issues that do not require official
Commission action but issues that do reflect our department's recent
projects ;
Student .Intern - We are fortunate once again to have an excellent student
intern from the University of Wisconsin/La Crosse, Mr. Lee Johnson.
• Lee commenced his duties with our department on August 31 , 1981. His major
responsibilities include the winter brochure, youth soccer program, ping-
pong program, 4 man football , 3 man basketball program. During his short
tenure he has proved to be a valuable asset to our department.
National Conference - Staff sent out registration information for the N.R.P.A.
Congress which will be held in Minneapolis , October 24 - 30. If you are at ,
all interested in attending , staff will ask the City Council to pay for your
initial registration fee. Having attended eight previous conferences , I can
assure you that you will not be disappointed.
Keynote speakers include Senator Dave Durenburger, Interior Secretary Watt
and Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin.
Tree transplanting - We have continued to make good use of the New Brighton
Tree Spade as we transplanted an additional 12 trees during the past week.
If you get a chance drive past Groveland and see the beautiful Blue Spruce
• donated by Josie and Russ Warren.
We also replaced the two Japanese Tree Lilacs which were vandalized with
2 Shademaster Locusts.
