III
MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONERS
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
DATE: APRIL 19 , 1995
SUBJECT: REVENUE FACILITY AT LAKESIDE PARK
Jay McCluskey, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of
Spring Lake Park and I have been brainstorming the idea of a
waterslide at Lakeside Park. We have met with Bob Kline from
Miracle Equipment, a supplier of waterslides for the state of
Minnesota and Wisconsin. Outdoor waterslides have been installed
at many communities including Crystal, Richfield, Edina,
Shakopee, Winona, and other out-state communities. The reason
these communities installed waterslides is for additional user
traffic, expanded recreational activity and revenue resource. I
recently attended an Aquatic Revenue Resource Institute which
outlined the benefits of a waterslide to existing water
facilities.
Jay and I are well aware that neither City has money to fund such
a capital item. However, we also know that many communities have
•
raised donations to fund such a community asset. I wish to share
with you our ideas for raising funding - to set a goal - and
begin. I need to know whether or not you are interested in
pursuing a fund raising campaign for such a project.
